Practice self-discipline

By PaulPetyt on July 23, 2020

Self-discipline leads to a sense of happiness and accomplishment, which can help you overcome feelings of helplessness and other negative thoughts.

I like to call it an action of kindness towards yourself. But how to develop this skill?

Start by discovering your weaknesses. I think that awareness is the base of wellbeing. Especially self-awareness & social awareness.

Is your weakness overeating? Maybe it is watching Netflix or spending time on your phone?

Next step will be to remove temptations.

Why don’t you set up TV to turn off after 1hour of watching? Why don’t you buy healthy groceries instead of junk food?

Once you do those little adjustments it will be easier for you to set boundaries for yourself.

Set clear goals, write them down on paper then break into smaller tasks and start executing one by one.

Create new habits but keep it simple at first then increase with time. Don’t overload yourself, the risk is that you will dislike your new habit. Organize your habits around your goals, to make them easier to achieve.

Change your perception about will power, stop blaming others for your mistakes. Only you are responsible for yourself and your actions.

Be aware that whatever you put in your mind, can really happen. Mindset is the key!

To resume:

  1. Discover your weaknesses
  2. Remove temptations
  3. Set clear goals
  4. Create new habits
  5. Change your perception about will power

Hope you enjoy my journal, and if you find it helpful in anyway let me know in the comment section. I will be happy to discuss it further with you!
