My current motto in life is “One day you will tell your story of how you’ve overcome what you are going through now and it will become part of someone’s survival guide.”
Since I’ve created The Gruber Club, I challenged myself to write an autobiography as a support for the readers. I’ve been through many things and looking back, I wish there would be someone who would share their story with me and show me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Recently, I’ve found my old diaries from more than 10 years ago! I realized how important having a diary is and would like to encourage you to start one.
I was reading my notes from 2010, and the experience of recalling memories was gratifying to me. Of course, I remember the main things, but reading small details from my everyday life there gave me a big smile. May it be the delicious cake my great grandmother made or just the colors of the flowers I harvested on Sundays; those little details are part of my past.
Look Back
Writing down your feelings helps you to “brain-dump” your anxieties, frustrations and pains on a journal. This can help you to reduce and release any stress which you have accumulated overtime. Writing helps process emotions and improve self-awareness. So, looking back on old entries can lead to true reflection & growth. Reading about the problems I had at the time, I think that I would react differently today if they happened to me again. It improves the metacognition.
Your journal = your thoughts
It’s also therapeutic, we live in a time where we are constantly communicating lies. Oftentimes we want to fit in, and we say things just to keep the right etiquette. You can honestly express your own thoughts and feelings without holding back. It often helps when we communicate our feelings and problems to others. A diary can offer an acceptable alternative to verbally venting your beliefs about people, places, or events which have happened in life.
Improve your writing
Journaling helps you to train your writing. If you want to practice or improve on your writing, the best thing to do is to start a journal. You may not have the perfect topic. All you need to do is to start writing your thoughts in Journey. The more you write, the more your writing improves.
Inspire creativity
Writing a journal is a great way to unleash your creativity. Everyone has the potential to be creative, just that most of us haven’t discovered it yet. Your journal is the best place to start exploring your inner creativity. Write down anything that comes to your mind. Let your imaginations run wild and record it in Journey.
There are many other benefits to keep a journal. You’ll discover more when you start one!
So chose a notebook, I recommend hardcover as after many years my softcover journals are deteriorating. Grab a pen and start writing:
Living a balanced life means, above all, being able to feel stable and secure. That’s why it’s important to take care of your emotional well-being as much as your physical one.
Maybe you are heading to work with your head down, or you are mindlessly looking through the window on the bus. I suggest, you hold your head up and smile!
Keep a diary!
